This is easier said than done! But it’s the honest Universal Truth. More than fifty percent of our life we search for happiness in love, relationships, friends, achievements, wealth, assets accrued…. the list is endless. As years go by love turns sour, relationships, friends, achievements, wealth, all fade away or lose their ability to excite us or provide the joy they once did. Why? Because everything in this world of plurality is transient in nature. This brings us to another Universal truth – The world of matter is constantly changing – it’s impermanent.
The three basic facts of all existence as per Buddha are:
1. Impermanence or Change (annichya)
2. Suffering is inevitable(dukha)
3. Not-self or Insubstantiality (anattaa).
Yet we act like race breed horses who are made to run faster by chasing the carrot before them. The result eventually is fatigue & disappointment.
So here’s the thing… how about making a U turn inwards? Our Soul/Atma – which is our true essence is Sat Chit Anand. It is said that sat-chit-ananda is the source of all consciousness and all perfection.
The meaning of the individual words of sat-chit-ananda are as follows:
• Sat: truth, absolute being or existence, that which is eternal, permanent and unchanging
• Chit: consciousness.
• Ananda: bliss, a state of pure happiness.
Once we make this ‘U’ turn within & take hundred percent responsibility for all the experiences of our life – the good, the bad & the ugly, a profound shift occurs. It’s almost an awakening to the fact that – “We are the script writers of our life”.
From this point onwards, there’s no looking back. This ‘Aha’ moment creates a phenomenal momentum around you that triggers an attitude of gratitude irrespective of all the challenges that may surround you. And when you’re grateful each second of your life the Universe celebrates by showering you with abundance of everything that you ever sought but couldn’t achieve. The journey now becomes effortless.
Another key point to true happiness is to Surrender the outcome of your well meaning actions (in all areas of your life) to the Universe. But to be able to surrender you first need to develop faith & devotion in the Divine. To develop faith & devotion you have to first purify yourself each day more & more. To purify each day you must reflect on the intention behind your thoughts, words & deeds. To reflect on your intention you must make contemplation a daily habit. Contemplation of yourself NOT others as others are only props in your life to enable your inward journey to Sat Chit Anand through self purification.
Love & Light to All,
Shilpa
